The problem
Many families end up cooking separate meals for picky kids, or fighting at every dinner. It is exhausting, and the menu shrinks to the same five foods.
Step by step
- 1List the foods each child reliably eats ("safe foods"), foods they refuse, any allergies, and your weeknight time limits.
- 2Open ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and paste the prompt below.
- 3Pick 5 dinners from the plan. Each should include at least one safe food so nobody goes hungry, served alongside what the adults eat.
- 4Try one "food bridge" a week: a small step from a liked food to a new one (for example, from chicken nuggets to homemade breaded chicken to grilled chicken strips). Serve tiny portions with no pressure.
- 5Ask for a grocery list for the week and save the meals that worked so you can repeat them.
Copy-paste prompt
Help me plan dinners for a family with picky eaters. Kids' ages: [ages]. Foods they reliably eat: [list]. Foods they refuse: [list]. Allergies: [list or "none"]. Weeknights must be under [30] minutes. Plan 5 family dinners where everyone eats the same base meal and each plate can include at least one safe food (build-your-own bowls, tacos, sheet-pan meals). For each, suggest one tiny, no-pressure new food to put on the table. Then give a "food bridge" idea for 2 of their safe foods and a grocery list grouped by store section.
Tips and watch-outs
- AI meal ideas are not medical or nutrition advice. Talk to your pediatrician about allergies, weight or growth concerns, or very limited diets.
- Always double-check recipes for allergens yourself.
- Keep new foods low-pressure; forcing bites usually backfires.
