Cut your grocery bill with a plan built from the weekly sale ad
Match this week's store sales to meals your family eats and get a shopping list with a target total.

The problem
Groceries keep getting more expensive, and shopping without a plan means impulse buys and paying full price for things that were on sale at the store down the road.
Step by step
- 1Open your store's weekly ad on its website or app (Publix, Aldi, Walmart, Kroger and most chains post one). Take screenshots of the pages with meat, produce and pantry deals, or save the PDF.
- 2Write down your budget for the week, how many people you are feeding, and 5–10 meals your family already likes.
- 3Upload the screenshots to ChatGPT or Gemini and paste the prompt below.
- 4Check the prices the AI pulls against the ad itself before you shop; screenshots get misread. Prices and sales change by store and week.
- 5Copy the final list into Google Sheets or your phone notes with the estimated price beside each item. After you shop, write down the real total so next week's plan gets more accurate.
Copy-paste prompt
Help me plan groceries around this week's sale ad. Store: [name]. Ad pages: [attach screenshots or PDF]. Budget: about $[amount] for the week. People eating: [number]. Meals my family already likes: [list]. Staples I already have: [list]. Allergies or foods to avoid: [list or "none"]. Give: (1) the sale items that are actually good deals for us, with the sale price as shown in the ad; (2) a week of dinners built mostly around those sale items; (3) a shopping list grouped by store section with an estimated price per item and a total; (4) which sale items are worth stocking up on if they keep (canned, frozen, freezer meat). Flag any price you are unsure you read correctly.
Tips and watch-outs
- Always check prices against the ad itself; AI can misread screenshots.
- A sale is only a deal if you will use it. Skip stock-ups that will spoil.
- Store loyalty apps often have digital coupons that stack with the weekly ad.
